Hello Sooke!
Like all of you, I care deeply about this place and its future.
I’ve called Sooke my home for many years. I’m a long-time community volunteer and active participant in local decision-making.
I’ve regularly attended council meetings and served in key roles, including:
Chair of the Official Community Plan Advisory Committee (2020–2022)
Current Member of the Land Use & Development Committee
My volunteer work is a big part of who I am.
I’m involved with several local organizations that reflect my love for nature, community, and helping Sooke stay ready for whatever comes our way:
Board Member, Friends of Sooke Parks Society
Executive Committee Member, Sooke Garden Club
Volunteer with Sooke’s Emergency Support Services
Steering Committee Member, Juan de Fuca Community Trails Society
I bring a thoughtful, balanced voice to the table,
shaped by experience, grounded in community values, and backed by a strong work ethic. With 20+ years in marketing and communications for an architecture and urban planning firm, I understand how good planning helps create places where people feel connected, supported, and proud to call home.
Living in Sooke’s town core, I see what’s working and what's not.
I’ve shown up, listened, and stayed engaged because I care deeply about where Sooke is headed. I believe in respectful leadership, environmental stewardship, and working together to protect what makes Sooke special.
"Keeping It Sooke" means honouring what we love while planning wisely for what’s next.
My name is Helen Ritts and I am running for Sooke Council.
